The topic of health insurance is a difficult but very important topic - especially in Germany, because here health insurance is compulsory for everyone with a permanent place of residence within Germany. How a prostitute gets health insurance depends, among other things, on whether she works as an employee or as a self-employed person. There are two different systems in Germany: statutory health insurance (GKV) and private health insurance (PKV). Both serve different groups of people and sometimes have other service offerings. Employed prostitutes (e.g. with an employment contract) are usually legally insured (GKV) and are registered with the health insurance company by their employer. The health insurance contributions are deducted directly as a percentage of the employee's monthly gross salary, with the employer contributing half of this. Self-employed prostitutes have to take care of their own health insurance and are free to choose a statutory health insurance company. The contributions due relate to their total income and have to be paid out of their own pockets as there is no employer. Any person who is not a compulsory member of the GKV can enter private health insurance. These include employees who earn more than EUR 57,600 gross per year (as of 2017) as well as the self-employed and freelancers. The contributions and services are agreed individually with the respective health insurance company. Health insurance in Germany for EU women - be careful! If a lady comes to Germany from an EU country, she can temporarily keep her health insurance at home. The "European Health Insurance Card" (EHIC) enables medical treatment throughout Europe, but only in emergencies. You can only get the full range of medical services if you are a member of a German health insurance company or have a special foreign insurance policy.
